Is Tallow Skincare Right for You?

We’re big fans of keeping things simple and effective—and for us, tallow fits the bill. It’s rich in nutrients, easily absorbed by the skin, and has been trusted for generations. But as much as we stand behind it, we also know it’s not for everyone.
Skincare is personal. And while tallow works beautifully for most folks, there are a few reasons why it might not be the perfect match for you—and that’s totally okay.
You Don’t Use Animal Products
Tallow is made from rendered beef fat—clean, grass-fed, and handled with care—but if you follow a plant-based lifestyle, it won’t align with your values. If that’s you, we fully understand and respect your decision. There are lots of wonderful plant oils and butters out there that can do great things for your skin too.
You Prefer Unscented Everything
Even though we blend our balms with essential oils like frankincense or lavender, tallow has a subtle, natural scent that some noses pick up more than others. If you’re someone who avoids any kind of fragrance—even from essential oils—you might find it noticeable.
You Like Light, Fast-Absorbing Lotions
Tallow balm has a rich, dense texture. It’s meant to melt into your skin and stick around to do its job. If you’re used to weightless gels or quick-dry lotions, the feel might take a bit of getting used to.
Start with a small amount—just a fingertip is plenty. A little truly goes a long way.
You're Expecting Instant Results
Tallow works with your skin—not against it—so the results tend to build over time. If you’re looking for something that delivers dramatic changes overnight, this might not be it.
What you can expect is calmer, stronger, more resilient skin over the long haul. It’s steady, not flashy.
Your Skin’s Naturally Oily or Reactive
Most people find that tallow helps balance oil production—but if your skin is very oily or easily triggered by richer products, it might feel like too much. In that case, try it sparingly at first or use it as a spot treatment in dry areas.
You Haven’t Patch Tested
It’s a boring step, but it matters. Even natural products can cause irritation in rare cases. We always recommend trying a little balm behind your ear or on the inside of your wrist before diving in.
Just So You Know...
We’re not here to sell you on something that isn’t right for you. We believe in good, honest products—and we also believe in making informed choices.
If you’re on the fence, we suggest trying one of our smaller sizes first. See how your skin takes to it. Ask questions. We’re always happy to chat and help you figure out what fits your routine and your values.
Tallow might just become your new favorite thing. Or maybe it won’t. Either way, you’ll know you made the right call—and that’s what matters.
Not Quite Sure Yet? That’s Okay.
If you’re curious but not ready to commit, start small. We offer smaller sizes so you can see how your skin takes to it before going all in.
